Rose had known that they would be getting a new boy in class today. The teacher had told them that his name was Richard. Her father had told her that his parents were nice, and that he seemed like a bright chap.
What she HADN'T known, what no one had deemed it necessary to tell her, was that he was drop-dead gorgeous.
Richard was tall, with red hair and a big smile, and a slight accent that just made him seem even more interesting. She knew he didn't live far from her, and she immediately decided that she had to get to know him better. Her father always said that it was important to have a good relationship with your neighbours, and Rose could finally see the wisdom of that position.
They were about halfway through the first lesson of the day, when she noticed a slight problem with her bright, shining future. That problem was commonly referred to as 'Harmony', at least to her face. Harmony was blonde, half a foot taller than Rose, and possessed a smile as friendly as it was brain-dead. And that smile was now beaming towards Richard.
Rose frowned. She had competition. That did not mean she would give up without a fight.
At first break, Rose made sure that she was the first to talk to Richard. She welcomed him to his new school, and made sure to point out that they would be practically neighbours. It wasn't much, but it was a start, and what's more, it was more than Harmony had. Rose could feel angry eyes glaring at her back as she sat down for the next lesson. The game was on, and Rose was going to make sure she did her best.
The day went on, and Rose was getting more and more confused. As far as she could tell, Harmony wasn't making a move at all. She didn't spend any time talking to Richard. She didn't try to scare Rose away. In fact, she didn't seem to be doing anything at all.
It wasn't before the second-to-last lesson of the day had begun that Rose discovered the trap she had already fallen in. They were supposed to hand in their assignments today, and Rose had finished it quite early yesterday. She'd placed it in the bottom of her bag. The trouble was that it wasn't there now.
As the last few assignments reached the front of the classroom, Rose quickly considered her options. She could tell the teacher that Harmony had stolen her paper, but that wasn't an accusation to be thrown around lightly. She needed proof, and Harmony wasn't as brain-dead as her smile could make people think; she'd most likely gotten rid of the assignment already. It seemed like the best possible option was to tell the teacher she'd lost it, and just admit that Harmony had won this round.
Miss Waters counted over the assignments, and looked at Rose. "Where is your assignment, Rose?"
"I-I've lost it, miss." There was a nervous giggling from the classroom. There had been quite a lot of missing assignments this year, so the teachers had implemented some new, stricter rules to deal with the problem. Rose was painfully aware of it, but there was no other alternative.
"Very well. Stay after the end of the day, Rose. I need to have a little discussion with you."
Rose was so distraught that she almost didn't notice the other kids giggling at her predicament. She knew that being kept after school would most likely mean a dose of the ruler over her panties. Worse, it would mean that she couldn't walk with Richard home. The ball was definitely in Harmony's court.
Last break, and Rose didn't feel like talking to anyone. She could feel everyone grinning smugly at her, thinking about what was going to happen to her. She couldn't handle that right now.
She spotted Richard, talking to a few of the other boys in class. From the fragments of conversation she could snap up, it seemed Richard was asking them about what had just happened, why everyone had giggled when she had forgotten her assignment. One of the boys, a cruel-looking creature by the name of Nathan, seemed to be giving a quite in-depth description. That was all that was missing, she sighed. Now, even Richard knew what was going to happen to her.
When the last lesson was over, and everyone else was making their way out of the classroom, Rose stepped over to the window. She needed to see what happened next, she needed to see Harmony dig her claws into her newest prey. She could see Harmony step over to Richard, trying to convince him to walk with her home. Usually, she didn't need to try very hard. She had a gift for that. Only...
She saw Richard break away from the conversation as politely as he could. It would seem that Harmony's gift of persuasion wasn't what it used to be. Rose smiled. That meant she still had a shot.
"Anything amusing going on, Rose?" Miss Waters asked her.
Rose spun around. "No, miss. Nothing at all."
"Well, then. Let's get started. I want to get this over with just as much as you do."
Rose went over the rules in her head as she got into position. The offending pupil would have to take out a chair and place it in the middle of the floor. They would stand behind the chair, lean forward, and place their hands on the seat. The teacher would step up behind them and either raise their skirts or lower the trousers, as the situation demanded. A set number of strokes would be delivered on the underwear with a sturdy old ruler. Extras were awarded for getting out of position, or trying to protect your bottom.
As she was standing there, bent over the chair, feeling Miss Waters reaching for her skirt, Rose suddenly spotted something: a face pressed against the glass at the far side of the room. Richard could see into the room.
Richard could see her spanking.
For a second, she considered telling Miss Waters and have her chase him away. But Miss Waters might invite him in to show him first-hand how the school handled corporal punishment, and she didn't want to be responsible for Richard getting a spanking. Partly because she didn't want to see him in pain, and partly because she found it very unlikely she would be his favourite person after that.
Besides, when boys tried to sneak a peek at the girls' punishments, they usually seemed smug, or cruelly enjoying it. Richard looked more sympathetic and sad.
That was it, then. She would keep her mouth shut, meaning that Richard had a fabulous view of her punishment. Somehow, she felt comforted by his presence.
"Ten strokes, Rose. Be ready for them."
"Yes, Miss Waters."
The first slap rang out into the air, and Rose bit her lip. The teachers always started out strongly.
Three strokes followed, and Rose had to grip the seat of the chair. She wanted to jump up and clutch her sore rear as if it was falling off, but that would only earn extras.
The fifth and sixth strokes were lower, biting into her sit spots. She could feel tears at the corners of her eyes, but she blinked them away. 'I will not cry', she told herself. 'I will not cry in front of Richard'.
Three hard strokes, and her fingernails dug into the wood of the chair. Her vision was getting blurry because of the tears, and she knew she wouldn't sit comfortably for some time.
"Last stroke, Rose."
And with a final CRACK!, the punishment was over. Rose stayed bent over the chair for a minute or so, getting her breath back. Miss Waters offered her a handkerchief, and she was allowed to leave.
She made her way home when she heard footsteps behind her. Richard ran up to her, blushing slightly.
"Thanks," he told her.
"For what?"
"For not telling on me when you spotted me," he said.
"I'm not a snitch," she answered. "Did you enjoy the show?"
"That was brutal. I can't believe you handled that as well as you did." Rose felt her face flush. He was complementing her. Perhaps she could exploit this a little...
"I don't feel very strong," she told him. "I mean, look at this," she said, turning her back on him and flipping up her skirt. "Look at my butt. It's so sore."
His eyes bulged, and he studied the backside more intently than she could remember anyone studying anything. She'd never thought she'd flash her knickers to get a boy interested in her, but she felt it fitted the situation.
As she lowered her skirt, she pretended she didn't see his expression of interest, but she knew one thing for certain. Harmony wasn't going to lure him away from her any time soon.
"Want me to carry your bags for you? You've been through a tough ordeal, best not to tire yourself out."
She graciously accepted, and they started to walk home. Rose realized that she had won. She smiled as she looked at the boy walking beside her. She had to admit, the prize was worth it.
