"You didn't think I'd be home from my work trip until tomorrow? Was that what you were about to say?" He looked around at the messy living room, particularly the half-full beer bottles. He glanced over at Mindy's best friend Courtney, who had been sleeping in the comfy chair. Like Mindy, she was clad in pyjamas, and her nervous countenance now mirrored his sister's.
"I can explain," Mindy said quickly. He folded his arms in front of his chest and gazed expectantly down at her, and she realized that she didn't know what to say. Was there anything she could come up with that would make the situation better?
When she hesitated, he turned his gaze on Courtney. "And you? Do you have anything to say for yourself?"
The plump, short girl with the long, dark hair silently shook her head, looking as if she was actively trying to sink into the chair and disappear from view. Robert was a tall, muscular man, but with a friendly smile that made her weak in the knees. Courtney couldn't deny that she found her friend's older brother attractive, and she hated it when he glared at her with that disappointed look.
